The 2 MW plant is expected to start generating electricity in 2024
The construction of 2 MW solar park of Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating machines Ltd. in Tápiószele has officially started. Thanks to the development carried out within the framework of the Energy Optimization Programme worth about EUR 11 million, from 2024 a significant portion of the electricity needs of the factory unit in Tapiószele will be met by electricity generated from renewable resources. The company started the investment to increase energy efficiency of the Tápiószele as part of which it will carry out several improvements within the area of the factory unit.
Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating machines Ltd. is building a solar power plant with a total rated output of 2 MW on a 3-hectare site at its transformer and rotating machine manufacturing plant in Tápiószele, Hungary. Construction work of the solar power plant was officially launched on 18 October 2023. The project installation is crucial for Ganz’s Energy Optimization Programme and is expected to be completed before the end of the year, with a significant portion of the plant’s energy needs covered by solar power from the second quarter of 2024.
With 145 years of knowledge the company is a key player in the European market for exceptional high-voltage electrical gear – such as transformers, motors and generators – has set the goal of making the operation of its central factory sustainable and significantly improving its energy efficiency over the next year. In accordance with the EU’s objectives for reducing carbon emissions and promote sustainable development, Ganz is committed to lead the way in sustainable business operations by launching the Energy Optimization Programme, which brings together the company’s investments in energy optimization and energy modernization. Ganz plans to reduce its carbon emissions by almost 40% by the end of 2024.
As part of the improvement programme, Ganz intends to increase the energy efficiency and the rate of utilization of renewable energy in its manufacturing processes, as well as improve the efficiency of its transformer and rotating equipment factory buildings. In addition to installing new, state-of-the-art mechanical engineering solutions, the company intends to further reduce the amount of gas it uses with thermal insulation.

Through the implementation of our Energy Use Optimization Programme, we can make the operation of our production unit more efficient so that we can simultaneously serve the needs of our partners with better sustainability indicators and more competitively,” said Gergely Gál, Managing Director of Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating machines Ltd.
Ganz received nearly HUF 1.9 billion in non-repayable grants to support its sustainability goals under the Factory Rescue Programme, which provides support for large companies for investments in energy efficiency and energy production. The grant agreement signed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also supports the company’s international competitiveness.
Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating machines Ltd. has gone through a significant change in the last 3 years and today it has once again grown into an internationally known and recognised brand. It is present in the energy market with individually designed and individually manufactured products representing high added value, mainly intended for the export market. The company’s turnover in 2022 was EUR 43 million, while in 2023 it is expected to exceed EUR 70 million. As a result of the network connection and system flexibility requirements arising during the integration of electricity produced with renewable energy sources into the grid, the demand for transformers has increased in the European Union. Thanks to this, Ganz has already committed its entire production capacity for 2024 and half of its production capacity for 2025.
